Walking
When it comes to walking, Rothbury is a great base to enjoy some of the best walks in Northumberland. The Simonside Hills, which are on the doorstep of Coquetdale, provide an amazing opportunity to do a great walk and take in some breath-taking sights. The Cheviots also provide walkers with stunning landscapes.
Challenge Walks
For those of you who are keen to feel a sense of achievement at the end of a walk, there are many walking challenges that take place at various points in the year. The Kielder Challenge, a 23.5 mile walk takes place in early September. This challenge gives participants the thrill of achievement whilst also providing some excellent photo opportunities. If you would prefer a shorter challenge, the Coquet Valley Challenge Walk, which is held in June, is 13.5 miles long and also takes in some of Northumberland’s beautiful views. On the Coquet Valley Challenge Walk, you finish off by walking over the River Coquet back into Rothbury, the perfect finishing point for anyone staying at Coquetdale. Both these challenges are dog friendly so there is no need to worry about having to leave mans best friend at home.
Family Walks
Walking is an activity that can be enjoyed by the whole family. The Simonside Family Walk is a family-oriented, easy to follow route that takes you through Harwood Forrest. There is lots to do and look out for along the route, making it fun for everyone.
Walking Courses
For anyone hoping to gain some valuable walking skills, such as map and compass skills or Nordic walking, Shepherds Walks hold courses throughout the year, which not only provide people with valuable outdoor skills but also a chance to have fun and be social, for a small fee.
Anyone who loves walking will feel content at Coquetdale knowing they can enjoy numerous walks, both leisurely and challenging, in beautiful, tranquil settings.
